Preventive / Diagnostic

Prophylaxis is a treatment performed to thoroughly clean your teeth and gums.

It is an effective procedure to keep the mouth in proper health and halt the progression of gum disease. X-rays will be performed annually to observe the root and bone health surrounding your teeth, and to detect cavities.

Preventive dentistry is just as it sounds and is the maintenance needed for your mouth and smile to stay healthy and bright.

Same Day Crowns!

In the case of large cavities or a cracked tooth, it may be the best long term option to have a crown placed on that tooth.

Crowns are made of a stronger material than fillings, and cover a larger portion of the tooth to prevent teeth from cracking or breaking. Here at Free State Dental we utilize the latest in Cerec CAD-CAM dental technology.

We design and make your crown in one visit to save you time, and make the crown in the most conservative and comfortable way possible.

Veneers

Veneers are a type of crown that are generally placed on front teeth. Veneers can be used for a variety of different purposes.

Whether you’re looking to perfect your smile, close spaces between your teeth, or change the shape of your front teeth, we would be more than happy to explain all options available to pick the best treatment for you.

Dental Implants

If you have already lost a tooth, or are needing an extraction, an implant can be a great way to replace that tooth. An implant replaces the root of the tooth and is anchored into your jaw.

After proper healing time, a crown is made to replace the lost tooth, and is then either screwed or cemented to the implant in your jaw. We utilize our digital and 3-D x-rays to help in every step of the implant process to ensure a safe and beautiful replacement.

Clear Aligners

Have you ever wanted to have straight teeth, but don’t want to go through the hassle of metal braces? Clear Aligners is a great option to move your teeth and establish a proper bite and beautiful smile.

Utilizing a series of clear plastic retainers, we are able to move teeth without bulky braces and in a very discrete way.

Bleaching

If you think your teeth have darkened over time, bleaching your teeth is a great way to get that beautiful white smile back.

We would be more than happy to discuss with you our variety of bleaching options including custom made bleach trays that can be used in the comfort of your own home.

In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be the only choice. However, since we offer low cost dental bleaching treatments, bleaching is worth a solid try.

Extractions

If a tooth is needing to be removed, we can do so in a pleasant and calming atmosphere.

Dentures / Partial Dentures

If you have previously experienced any form of tooth loss, we will be more than happy to discuss with you the different options you have regarding replacing your teeth and giving you a beautiful and healthy smile.

Dentures and partial dentures can be a great way to restore your smile while being able to replace several teeth at once.

Root Canals

When a tooth becomes infected and we wish to save the tooth, a root canal will need to be performed.

A root canal removes all infected tissue within the tooth and places a filling down into the root. After having a root canal completed, a crown will be necessary to strengthen the top of the tooth and seal the tooth to prevent another infection from developing.

Gum Infection Therapy (Perio Therapy)

Gum disease is a major cause of tooth loss.

Periodontal therapy (gum infection therapy) is a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. Periodontal therapy is often followed by a more frequent maintenance appointment.

Dental Restoration

At Free State Dental we are an amalgam (silver fillings) free dental office. If you need to have a filling placed due to a cavity, we utilize the best composite resin (tooth colored fillings) to restore your tooth to its full function and esthetics.

We offer a full range of dental restoration including CEREC crowns and veneers. Using the latest in dental restoration technology (CAD-CAM), we are able to complete most restorations in only one visit. This completely eliminates the need for traditional impressions and temporary crowns. Our restorations often require less removal of your natural tooth giving you the most natural look and feel possible.

If you are experiencing an unexplained pain from filled back teeth, it is likely due to hairline fractures/cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth allows you to regain a full dental function since the pain has been relieved.

Amalgam fillings vs. Composite fillings

Most people recognize amalgams as silver fillings. An amalgam is a mixture of mercury, silver, tin and copper. Mercury, which makes up about 50 percent of the compound, is necessary to bind the metals together to provide a strong, hard, durable filling. The mercury does have a tendency to expand and contract within the tooth structure leaving the natural tooth susceptible to breaking and fracturing. The amalgam material is also toxic to the environment.

Therefore, we like to use a composite material when filling a tooth. This material has a more stable disposition and also allows us to take less of the natural tooth structure away during the process of filling.

A composite filling is made of ceramic and plastic compounds. Because resins mimic the appearance of natural teeth, these fillings have been commonly used on front teeth for years. In the last 10 years, technology has improved enough to allow the use of resin materials on posterior or back teeth. And so there are both durable and aesthetically pleasing.
